Heels and Healing

Kenz wears a shoe size 6.

Which means, she has graduated from the children’s shoe section to the women’s section.

I didn’t expect this to make me emotional. I hadn’t expected her joy to heal parts of me.

As she ran up and down the aisles, grabbing shoes and remarking how shiny, sparkly, and cute they were (who doesn’t love a good pair of 6 inch mermaid stilettos 😉😅) I couldn’t help but to smile.

A tear fell. Growing up shopping was miserable, there was yelling, anxiety, tension and the fighting. I hated every experience. My needs were never attended to, my wants downplayed, my interest dismissed and criticized.

To give my daughter these beautiful moments. To see her share them alongside her patient, loving, father is almost surreal to me.

Healing is good. Healing is important. Healing is possible.

Here’s to Kenz and her heels!
